If you are a first home buyer you might also be eligible for a First Home Owner Grant. These grants vary from state to state and are essentially a one off financial incentive to encourage first home buyers to enter the housing market and to make owning your own home more affordable.

As an example, the First Home Owners Grant in Victoria provides $10,000 to eligible first home buyers to purchase or build a new house, townhouse, apartment, unit or similar up to the value of $750,000.
